• Image of Milky Muana Kea

Sitting above the clouds at 9,000' you can see 60,000 stars in the sky. I ventured to Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawaii, one of the highest peaks in the world if measured from the ocean floor. I arrived around sunset and hiked about 15 minutes to a peak away from people and lights. This was rather difficult at that altitude, the steep incline, 35lbs back pack of gear and lack of oxygen was hard to battle. But once in place I wedged myself behind a wall of rocks hiding from the wind. It was still 2 hours until the sky was dark enough to shoot, so there I sat gazing at the stars as they peaked through the twilight.
