Living in Canada for so long it's surprising I've never actually seen the Northern Lights until 2013. A friend of mine showed me a website that warns you about the probability of seeing them so I signed up and sure enough a few days later there was a warning. Now the thing about the Aurora is that it's unpredictable, one minute they can be active the next gone. They are fast and they don't follow any type of pattern. I got the email and immediately rushed to get my gear together and raced out west to Allen bill pond, my goal was to find the darkest skies as quickly as I could. Once there I set up and slowly the Aurora creeped into the skies above. The aurora created this amazing arch across the frame. As quickly as they came they were gone. All of it lasted no more than 5 minutes.
